The Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for Classes I to V (Primary) is run by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE). The Board follows NCTE guidelines for this test. If you pass TET, you can apply to become an Assistant Teacher in Government Aided, Government Sponsored or Junior Basic primary schools in West Bengal. TET only makes you eligible. It does not give you a job. Jobs are filled through a separate recruitment process for notified vacancies. The test is one paper with 150 multiple-choice questions. Each question carries 1 mark and there is no negative marking. The paper has five parts: Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II (English), Mathematics and Environmental Studies. The latest test, TET-2023, was held on 24 December 2023. The Board says 3,09,054 candidates registered, 2,73,147 appeared and 6,754 qualified. Note: the Board held a separate TET on 22 February 2026 for Special Education Teacher posts. This page covers the regular Primary TET. The Board's current official website, as printed on its 2025 notices, is wbbpe.wb.gov.in.
