Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skill)

  • Algebra: basic identities of school algebra, elementary surds, graphs of linear equations

  • Mensuration: triangle, quadrilaterals, regular polygons, circle, right prism, cone, cylinder, sphere, hemisphere, cuboid, pyramid
  • Trigonometry: ratios, complementary angles, heights and distances (simple problems), standard identities

Tier-II

Section-I A: Mathematical Abilities

  • Algebra: basic identities, elementary surds, graphs of linear equations
  • Geometry: triangle centres, congruence and similarity, circles, chords, tangents
  • Mensuration: 2D and 3D figures (prism, cone, cylinder, sphere, hemisphere, cuboid, pyramid)
  • Trigonometry: ratios, complementary angles, heights and distances, standard identities
  • Statistics and probability: tables and graphs, mean, median, mode, standard deviation, simple probability

Section-I B: Reasoning and General Intelligence

  • Semantic, symbolic/number and figural analogy
  • Semantic, symbolic/number and figural classification

  • Reading comprehension: two or more passages (at least one simple story-type, one based on a current affairs editorial or report)

Section-II B: General Awareness

  • Current events
  • Everyday science
  • India and its neighbouring countries: history, culture, geography
  • Economic scene, general policy and scientific research

Section-III: Computer Knowledge

  • Computer basics: organisation of a computer, CPU, input/output devices, memory, backup devices, ports, Windows Explorer, keyboard shortcuts
  • Software: Windows operating system, MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint
  • Internet and e-mail: browsing, searching, downloading and uploading, managing an e-mail account, e-banking
  • Networking and cyber security: devices and protocols, threats such as hacking, viruses, worms and Trojans, and how to prevent them

Section-IV: Skill Test / Typing Test

  • DEO posts: data entry of an English passage on computer in 15 minutes (8,000 or 15,000 key depressions per hour, depending on the post)
  • LDC/JSA: typing test of 10 minutes at 35 words per minute (English) or 30 words per minute (Hindi, Mangal font)
