SSC CHSL 2026 Exam Date, Notification & Vacancies

SSC CHSL (Combined Higher Secondary Level) is a national exam held by the Staff Selection Commission for students who have passed Class 12. It fills Group C posts in central government ministries, departments and offices. The posts are Lower Division Clerk (LDC) / Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), Data Entry Operator (DEO) and DEO Grade 'A'. CHSL 2026 has two computer-based tiers. Tier-I is only a screening test. The final merit list uses Tier-II marks only. The age limit is 18–27 years. The SSC notice of 7 September 2026 gives about 2,536 tentative vacancies. Applications closed on 7 October 2026. SSC's proposed Tier-I dates are 30 November to 31 December 2026.

About 2,536 tentative vacancies, as given in the CHSL 2026 notice of 7 September 2026. SSC has not yet published the post-wise and category-wise split. It will put them on ssc.gov.in (Candidate's Corner > Tentative Vacancy). Final vacancies may change. SSC does not collect state-wise or zone-wise vacancies. Ask the user department for those.
Frequently asked questions
When is the SSC CHSL 2026 Tier-I exam?
SSC's notice of 1 October 2026 gives the proposed Tier-I dates as 30 November to 31 December 2026. Exam city details come about 10 days before the exam. Your admit card is expected 2–3 days before your own exam date. Tier-II dates are not announced yet.
When will the SSC CHSL 2026 answer key come?
SSC has not announced a date; tentative keys come after Tier-I ends on 31 December 2026. Last year's key came on 8 December 2025, 8 days after that cycle's last exam day. See the answer key page for how to check it and the objection fee.
How many vacancies are there in SSC CHSL 2026?
The notice of 7 September 2026 gives about 2,536 tentative vacancies. SSC will publish the post-wise and category-wise split later. Final numbers may change.
What is the age limit for SSC CHSL 2026?
18–27 years as on 1 August 2026, so you must be born between 2 August 1999 and 1 August 2008. SC/ST get 5 more years, OBC 3 years and PwBD 10 years.
Can I still apply or correct my CHSL 2026 form?
No new applications. The last date was 7 October 2026, and fee payment closed on 8 October 2026. If you sent a complete application on time (with the fee, if you had to pay one), you can correct your form from 14 to 16 October 2026 (11 pm). The first correction costs ₹200 and the second ₹500.
Is there negative marking?
Yes. In Tier-I, 0.50 mark is cut for each wrong answer (a correct answer gets 2 marks). In Tier-II, 1 mark is cut per wrong answer in Sections I, II and III (a correct answer gets 3 marks).
Do Tier-I marks count in the final selection?
No. Tier-I is only used to shortlist candidates for Tier-II. The final merit list uses Sections I and II of Tier-II only. Tier-I marks are used only to break a tie.
What were the Tier-I cut-offs in CHSL 2025?
For LDC/JSA, the official cut-offs (out of 200) were: UR 144.26, OBC 143.83, EWS 141.42, SC 125.40 and ST 115.25. DEO cut-offs were higher (UR 169.54 for Science-stream DEO posts and 165.27 for other DEO posts). Cut-offs change every year.
