  • Internet and e-mail: browsing, searching, downloading and uploading, managing e-mail, e-banking
  • Networking and cyber security: devices and protocols, threats such as hacking, viruses, worms and Trojans, and how to prevent them

Section-IV: Data Entry Speed Test

  • Typing a passage of about 2,000 key presses in 15 minutes (qualifying)

Tier-II Paper-II (Statistics)

Statistics

  • Collection, classification and presentation of data: primary and secondary data, tabulation, graphs, frequency distributions
  • Measures of central tendency: mean, median, mode; quartiles, deciles, percentiles
  • Measures of dispersion: range, quartile deviation, mean deviation, standard deviation, relative dispersion
  • Moments, skewness and kurtosis
  • Correlation and regression: scatter diagram, correlation coefficient, regression lines, Spearman's rank correlation, association of attributes, multiple and partial correlation (three variables)
  • Probability: definitions, conditional and compound probability, independent events, Bayes' theorem
  • Random variables and distributions: expectation, variance, moments; binomial, Poisson, normal, exponential; joint distribution of two discrete variables
  • Sampling theory: population and sample, sampling and non-sampling errors, probability and non-probability sampling methods, sample size
  • Statistical inference: point and interval estimation, estimators, methods of estimation, hypothesis testing, Z, t, chi-square and F tests, confidence intervals
  • Analysis of variance: one-way and two-way

Tier-II Paper-III (General Studies – Finance and Economics)

Part A: Finance and Accounts (80 marks)

  • Financial accounting: nature, scope, limitations, basic concepts and conventions, GAAP
  • Single and double entry, books of original entry, journal, ledgers
  • Bank reconciliation, trial balance, rectification of errors
  • Manufacturing, trading, profit and loss appropriation accounts, balance sheet
  • Capital vs revenue expenditure, depreciation accounting, valuation of inventories
  • Accounts of non-profit organisations: receipts and payments, income and expenditure
  • Bills of exchange, self-balancing ledgers

Part B: Economics and Governance (120 marks)

  • Comptroller and Auditor General of India: constitutional provisions, role and duties
  • Finance Commission: role and functions
  • Basics of economics and micro-economics; production possibility curve
  • Demand and supply: laws, elasticity, consumer behaviour (Marshallian and indifference curve approaches)
  • Production and cost: factors, law of variable proportions, returns to scale
  • Market forms and price setting: perfect competition, monopoly, monopolistic competition, oligopoly
  • Indian economy: role of agriculture, industry and services; national income; population; poverty and unemployment; infrastructure
  • Economic reforms since 1991: liberalisation, privatisation, globalisation, disinvestment
  • Money and banking: RBI, commercial banks, RRBs, payments banks; monetary and fiscal policy; budget, fiscal deficit, balance of payments; FRBM Act, 2003
  • Role of information technology in governance
