From the official National Testing Agency (NTA), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India documents · last checked 18 October 2026
Age limit
You must be at least 17 years old on or before 31 December 2026. This means you must be born on or before 31 December 2009 (Graduate Medical Education Regulations amendment of 16 June 2023). There is no upper age limit.
| Category | Age relaxation |
|---|---|
| SC, ST, OBC-NCL and PwBD/PwD candidates | No separate relaxation. The bulletin gives the same lower age limit to every category (born on or before 31 December 2009), and there is no upper age limit. |
Educational qualification
| Posts | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Appearing in Class 12, result awaited (Code 01) | You can apply and write the exam while your Class 12 result is awaited. But you are not eligible for admission if you have not passed Class 12 by the first round of counselling. |
| Passed Class 12 (Code 02) | Class 12 (Higher/Senior Secondary or ISC) after 12 years of study, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology (with practicals) and English. Under NMC's public notice of 22 November 2023, these subjects can also be studied as additional subjects after Class 12 from a recognised board. You must show proof of passing them. |
| Other qualifications (Codes 03 to 07) | An intermediate or pre-degree science exam, or a pre-medical exam, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology (with practicals) and English. Also accepted: the first year of a 3-year degree course with these subjects (a university exam), or a B.Sc. with at least two of Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Biotechnology, if your earlier exam had Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. A foreign or other exam needs a certificate from an Indian university or the Association of Indian Universities saying it equals Class 12 science. |
| Minimum Class 12 marks | The NEET UG 2026 bulletin does not set a minimum Class 12 percentage. The 2025 bulletin had asked for 50% in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology together (40% for SC, ST and OBC-NCL), but this rule is not in the 2026 bulletin. For state quota seats, the state's own eligibility rules apply. |
| Marks needed to qualify (be in the merit list) | General and Gen-EWS: 50th percentile. SC, ST and OBC-NCL: 40th percentile. General/Gen-EWS with benchmark disability: 45th percentile. SC/ST/OBC-NCL with benchmark disability: 40th percentile. The Central Government may lower these if not enough candidates qualify. In 2026 the lowest qualifying marks were 213 (General/EWS), 194 (General/EWS PwBD) and 177 (reserved categories) out of 720. |
