WBPSC Clerkship Eligibility: Age Limit & Qualification

Age limit
At least 18 years and not more than 40 years as on 1 January 2023. This means born not earlier than 2 January 1983 and not later than 1 January 2005. Only the age shown in the Madhyamik (or equivalent) certificate is accepted. The limits apply to everyone, including people already in government service.

Educational qualification

| Lower Division Assistant / Lower Division Clerk and similar posts | Basic knowledge of computer operation and the ability to type on a computer at 20 words per minute in English or 10 words per minute in Bengali. The choice of language is made in the application form. |
Nationality & other conditions
- A citizen of India (by birth or by registration), or a national of another country that the Government of India has declared eligible. A candidate in the second group needs a certificate of eligibility from the Government; they may sit the exam, but an appointment offer comes only after that certificate is issued.
- Must be able to read, write and speak Bengali. This does not apply to candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali.
- Reservation (SC, ST, OBC non-creamy layer, EWS) is only for candidates of West Bengal. Reservation also covers PwBD (40% or more), Ex-Servicemen and Meritorious Sportspersons in listed sports.
- Category certificates must be issued by a competent West Bengal authority on or before the application closing date (29 December 2023 for the 2023 cycle).
- Application fee: Rs. 110 plus service charge. SC and ST candidates of West Bengal and PwBD candidates (40% or more) pay no fee. OBC candidates of West Bengal pay the normal fee.
- Only one online application is allowed per candidate. There is no edit window after final submission.
- Selected candidates must pass a medical examination and a police check of their background before appointment.
- Candidates choose their posting preference among Secretariat departments, Directorates, and regional or district offices of one district or Kolkata.
