From the official West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) documents · last checked 14 October 2026
Madhyamik Pariksha (মাধ্যমিক পরীক্ষা) is the Class 10 board exam of West Bengal. It is run by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE, পশ্চিমবঙ্গ মধ্যশিক্ষা পর্ষদ). The Board published the 2027 routine on 13 July 2026. The written exams run from 15 to 25 February 2027, one subject each day, from 10:45 am to 2:00 pm. The first 15 minutes are only for reading the question paper. There are seven compulsory subjects: First Language (প্রথম ভাষা), Second Language (দ্বিতীয় ভাষা), Mathematics (গণিত), Physical Science (ভৌতবিজ্ঞান), Life Science (জীবনবিজ্ঞান), History (ইতিহাস) and Geography (ভূগোল). Optional elective subjects are on 25 February 2027. Each compulsory subject has a 90-mark written paper. Your school adds 10 marks of internal (formative) assessment, so each subject is out of 100. Every paper mixes multiple-choice questions (MCQ), very short answers, short answers and long answers. In most subjects, MCQs and very short answers together carry 36 of the 90 marks. In Mathematics they carry 16 marks. The Board will announce the dates for Physical Education and Social Service, and for Work Education, later. Schools hold the Selection Test between 17 and 30 November 2026, and they enrol students for the exam online from 2 to 19 December 2026. In 2026, 9,53,753 candidates sat the exam. The 2026 result came out on 8 May 2026.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Madhyamik 2027 routine?
Notification No. EMU/C/35 dated 13 July 2026: Monday 15 February 2027 - First Language; Tuesday 16 February 2027 - Second Language; Thursday 18 February 2027 - History; Friday 19 February 2027 - Geography; Monday 22 February 2027 - Mathematics; Tuesday 23 February 2027 - Physical Science; Wednesday 24 February 2027 - Life Science; Thursday 25 February 2027 - Optional Elective Subjects. The Board says it may change the date or time if needed, and will inform everyone.
What time does each Madhyamik 2027 paper start, and how long is it?
Compulsory subject papers run from 10:45 am to 2:00 pm. From 10:45 to 11:00 am you can only read the question paper. Optional elective papers on 25 February 2027 have different times: Sewing and Needle Craft 10:45 am to 3:00 pm; Music (vocal and instrumental) 10:45 am to 1:00 pm; Computer Application 10:45 am to 1:30 pm; vocational subjects 10:45 am to 12:30 pm; all other optional elective subjects 10:45 am to 2:00 pm.
How many marks is each subject, and what are the 10 internal marks?
Each compulsory subject has a 90-mark written paper and 10 marks of internal (formative) assessment done by your school, so the subject is out of 100. The Board lists six ways schools can give these marks: survey report, nature study, case study, creative writing, model making and open book evaluation. Schools use three of them in a year, one in each term.
What is the pass mark, and how does grading work?
The Board's 2026 result abstract uses the grades AA, A+ and A, and it reports how many students got AA in each subject. PadhoDost did not find the marks range for each grade or the pass mark in any public Board notice, so we do not list them here. Ask your school if you need them now.
When will the Madhyamik 2027 result come out?
The date is not announced yet. Past results came out on 2 May 2024, 2 May 2025 and 8 May 2026. In 2026 the Board announced the result date on 17 April. Results were online from 10:15 am, and schools collected marksheets and certificates from Board camp offices from 10:30 am the same day.
How can I get my marks rechecked (PPS or PPR), or see my answer script?
Your school applies online for you; the Board does not accept applications from students. In 2026 the window was 8 to 22 May. If you passed, you can apply for Post Publication Scrutiny (PPS), which only checks and re-totals your marks: Rs 80 per subject. If you did not pass, you can apply for Post Publication Review (PPR), which re-assesses the script: Rs 100 per subject. Give your school a plain-paper request with your name, roll number, subjects and a photocopy of your marksheet. The 2026 PPS/PPR results came out on 16 June 2026. Separately, you can ask for a certified copy of your answer script under the RTI Act with a Rs 10 fee, sent to the Board office for your roll number.
What happens if I fail in one or two subjects (compartmental)?
The Board's result papers list some candidates as 'eligible for compartmental'. In 2026, 1,858 candidates were in this group. Compartmental candidates sit the next year's Madhyamik. They are enrolled through their school together with regular and continuing candidates, under the Board's Gazette rules (S/488 of 2001, clauses 17 and 18, as amended in 2008). In 2026, 1,231 compartmental candidates appeared and 1,148 passed. The Board's notices do not describe a separate supplementary exam.
When and how will I get my Madhyamik 2027 admit card?
The Board gives admit cards to schools at its camp offices at least 10 days before the exam, and you collect yours from your school. The exact date for 2027 is not announced yet. For 2026, admit cards were given out on 20 January 2026. Check every detail on it. If there is a mistake, your school follows the correction circular that comes with the admit cards.
What must I not take into the exam hall?
Mobile phones, smart watches, Bluetooth devices or any other electronic gadget. This applies even if the device is switched off or on silent. If a device is found with you after the announcement or after question papers are handed out, your whole exam can be cancelled, and no appeal is allowed (WBBSE notice, 4 February 2025).
Does WBBSE publish previous years' Madhyamik question papers?
PadhoDost did not find past Madhyamik question papers on the Board's website. Every year the Board publishes a printed Madhyamik Test Paper book, and it reaches students through their schools. For 2025-26 it was sent through 49 camps (notice dated 17 October 2025). Ask your school for the latest one.
