Compare with the NDA & NA (II) 2025 official cut-off (Written exam - minimum qualifying marks):

Cut-off: 304.90 out of 900

Cut-offs change every year with difficulty and vacancies — treat last year's as a guide, not a promise. Official UPSC notice. Candidates also needed at least 25% marks in each subject. UPSC gave separate figures for men and women; the notice has no category-wise figures. 742 candidates (651 men and 91 women) were recommended against 406 vacancies.

Mathematics is worth 300 marks and the General Ability Test 600 marks, and all questions in a paper carry equal marks. So each question is worth 300 / 120 = 2.5 marks in Mathematics and 600 / 150 = 4 marks in the GAT. For each wrong answer, one-third of that question's marks is cut (0.8333 in Mathematics, 1.3333 in the GAT). Blank answers get no penalty. Question counts come from the official NDA & NA (II) 2026 test booklets. The written total is out of 900; the SSB adds 900 more.

How your UPSC NDA 2026 score is calculated

Each section is scored on its own: right answers × marks per question, minus wrong answers × the negative mark. Skipped questions score zero. For example, in Mathematics (120 questions), 84 right and 18 wrong gives 84 × 5/2 − 18 × 5/6 = 195 marks.

GAT Part A - English3587129.33
GAT Part B - General Knowledge701515260
Total (out of 900)584.33

In this example negative marking costs 45.67 marks. With this marking a pure blind guess breaks even on average — it only pays when you can rule out at least one option.
