You must be 20 to 30 years old on 1 January 2024. SC/ST candidates get 5 extra years. OBC-A/OBC-B and transgender candidates get 3 extra years. You also need a bachelor's degree in any subject, held by the last date to apply (7 April 2024).

Yes. In the 2024 drive, women apply for Sub-Inspector (Unarmed Branch), with 248 posts. Armed Branch posts are listed for men only. Older drives called this post Lady Sub-Inspector.

You must be able to speak, read and write Bengali. Permanent residents of the Darjeeling and Kalimpong hill sub-divisions are exempt. In Paper III you may pick Bengali, Hindi, Urdu or Nepali. If you pick Hindi, Urdu or Nepali and get selected, you must pass a Bengali departmental exam during probation.

Yes. The Prelims has 100 questions for 200 marks, so each question carries 2 marks. For each wrong answer, one-fourth of that question's marks is cut. Prelims marks only decide who goes on to the PMT & PET. They do not count in the final merit list.

It adds your marks in the three final written papers (200) to your Personality Test marks (30). You must score at least 8 out of 30 in the Personality Test. Below that, you are out.

The Prelims was held on 12 October 2025. The PMT & PET began on 17 November 2025. The final written exam was held on 22 February 2026. As of 4 October 2026, WBPRB has not announced the final written result or the Personality Test dates. WBPRB has not put up category-wise cut-off marks as a public notice. You can only check your result with your Application Sl. No. and date of birth.
