SSC JE 2026 Eligibility: Age Limit & Qualification

Age limit
Age is counted as on 1 August 2026. The limit depends on the post. Up to 32 years (born between 2 Aug 1994 and 1 Aug 2008): JE (Civil) and JE (Electrical) in CPWD, and JE (Civil) and JE (Electrical) in the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships. Up to 30 years (born between 2 Aug 1996 and 1 Aug 2008): all other posts, including BRO, MES, Central Water Commission, CWPRS, DGQA-Naval, Farakka Barrage, Brahmaputra Board, NTRO, Ministry of Fisheries, JE (Telecom) in DoT and Scientific Assistant in IMD.

Nationality & other conditions
- You must be a citizen of India, or a subject of Nepal or Bhutan. A person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam to settle permanently in India can also apply. Everyone except Indian citizens needs an eligibility certificate from the Government of India before getting a job offer.
- The qualification cut-off date is 22 September 2026. A result that the university or board is still processing on that date does not count.
- Where experience is needed, it must be gained after you got the qualification. Internship, training or research done during the course does not count.
- Engineering degrees and diplomas earned through distance (ODL) or online mode are not accepted, unless the regulator has allowed them. IGNOU B.Tech/Diploma for students enrolled up to 2009-10 is valid as per the Supreme Court order.
- Only male candidates can apply for JE posts in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO). BRO has a physical efficiency test and physical and medical standards, checked by BRO after the final result.
- Applying for one post can make you eligible for related posts: JE (Mechanical) applicants are also eligible for JE (Electrical & Mechanical); JE (Electrical) applicants for JE (Electrical & Mechanical) and, if qualified, JE (Telecom); JE (Telecom) applicants for Scientific Assistant (IMD) or JE (Electrical) if qualified; Scientific Assistant applicants for JE (Telecom) if qualified.
- There is no reservation for ex-servicemen because these are Group B posts. Ex-servicemen still get age relaxation.
- The JE (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical) and Scientific Assistant posts are not suitable for visually handicapped (VH) candidates. JE (Telecom) in DoT is the only post open to VH (low vision) candidates.
- Application fee: ₹100. Women, SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen candidates do not pay any fee. Correction charges are ₹200 for the first correction and ₹500 for the second.
- Selected candidates are on probation for 2 years.
- Posts carry All India Service Liability, so you can be posted anywhere in India.
